3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985
These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.
All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.
Individual sources for this event
Autosport 12 Jul 1968 pp8-15. Motor Sport August 1968 pp684-687. Motoring News 11 Jul 1968 pp1,12-14. Speedworld International 13 Jul 1968 p18-25. Autosport listed T cars with the Brabham and Ferrari teams, with Motor Sport listing the Ferrari and mentioning the presence of the Brabham. Motoring News, although still not listing chassis numbers reliably, also mentioned the spare BT24. Both Matra teams arrived with only one car each. Non-arrivals included Dan Gurney's Eagle, Jo Bonnier's McLaren, the Cooper-Alfa and the Alpine, but none of these were allocated entry numbers. Amédée Gordini told SWI's Gregor Grant that the Alpine was being tested at Zolder that weekend, but a spectating Lucien Bianchi told Grant he was beginning to think the Cooper-Alfa was a myth. As the Tim Parnell BRM P126 was effectively a works entry, the only private entrant at this race was the Rob Walker/Jack Durlacher Lotus 49. BRM had reinforced the noses on the 126/133s to cope with more downforce, Ferrari had moved the wing forward on the 312/68 and as Ickx won, this must count as a success, and McLaren had copied the Ferrari aerofoil.
