3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985
These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.
All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.
Individual sources for this event
Autosport 22 Apr 1971 pp8-15 (by Patrick McNally). Motoring News 22 Apr 1971 pp12-14 (by 'MGD' Mike Doodson). Autocourse 1971-72 pp64-69 (by David Phipps). The Motor Racing Year No 3 (by Anthony Pritchard) pp40-48.
The entry was the expected standard for 1971: two-car entries from Lotus, Brabham, McLaren, Tyrrell, Matra and Surtees; three cars from Ferrari, BRM and March; and the single car from Frank Williams; a total of 22. Autocourse only spotted T cars from Tyrrell and Ferrari, much as had been the case through 1970, but Autosport also noticed a BRM and a Matra. Motoring News noted that the Tyrrell and the Ferrari, but that the BRM and the Matra were present. Pritchard, as well as noting the spare BRM and Matra, was the only reporter to notice that McLaren had brought along a second M14A as a source of spares.
