3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

There were two entries from each of Lotus, McLaren, March, Ferrari and Williams; three this time from Tyrrell, three each from Brabham and Surtees, five from BRM, and one each from Matra and Tecno. The privateers were the stockbroker March, the Eifelland and Dave Charlton's Lotus 72, bringing the total to 29 entries, three more than the Belgian GP thanks to the addition of Charlton and the Tyrrell team's move from one entry to three, with Stewart's return and the addition of Depailler to the team. The spare cars present were the new Tyrrell 005, a second McLaren M19A used by Redman, a Ferrari 312B2 for Ickx, a Lotus 72 for Fittipaldi and an unused MS120C for Amon. Marriott said that 34 cars were in the paddock, the Connew being the only absence. This was a new record for 3-litre F1 cars at a race, the previous record being 31, set at Monza in 1970 and equalled three times since. As well as the brand new Tyrrell 005, Matra had brought an all new MS120D, and March had two new March 721Gs.
