3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985
These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.
All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

There were two entries from each of Lotus, Ferrari, Tyrrell, McLaren, Shadow, Surtees and Williams; three from Brabham and BRM; and one from Ensign. There was again no works March, as Jarier was busy with Formula 2 at the Norisring, and no Tecno. Ickx was having a guest drive for Ferrari. The four privateers were Embassy Racing with Hill's Shadow, Space Racing with the impressively fast stockbroker March 731, Lec back with the works' March 731 hire car, and Hesketh Racing with their March 731 for Hunt, bringing the total to 25. Hunt damaged the Hesketh-March during practice, so there were 24 starters. The Ensign outqualified both Williams, all three Shadows and even one of the BRMs. The six spare cars present were Peterson's Lotus 72, Stewart's Tyrrell 005 still in side-radiator spec, a McLaren M23, a Brabham BT42, a Shadow DN1 for Oliver, and a BRM P160E, there being no spare Surtees this time.
Andrew Marriott wrote the Italian GP report as Denis Jenkinson "opted out" due to his unhappiness about the various committees that existed to look into safety issues, circuit design, firefighting equipment, pace cars and so on. He was allowed a page to say what he thought about these changes instead, complaining that they were "defeating the whole object and enjoyment" of the sport and that the "circus" was "losing its sense of proportion". This was in the immediate aftermath of Roger Williamson burning to death at Zandvoort while the F1 cars continued to drive through the smoke at unabated speed, and a 24-hour touring car race at Jenks' beloved Spa circuit where three drivers had been killed.
