3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985
These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.
All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Autocar 18 May 1974 pp25-27 (by Ray Hutton). Sport Auto Juin 1974 pp40-47 (by Gérard Crombac). Autocourse 1974/75 (edited by Mike Kettlewell) reproduced Pete Lyons' reports from Autosport, so included very little information that had not already been published.
At the top of the entry list were the usual two-car teams of Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren, Brabham, March, Ferrari, BRM, Shadow, Surtees and Williams. The non-member entries at this race were the single-car constructor Ensign, Hesketh, Trojan and newcomer Token, and the two Embassy-Hill Lolas. Then came third entries from Yardley-McLaren, BRM and Brabham, who had entered a hire car at this race for Teddy Pilette. Privateers here were Hexagon, the Bretscher Racing Brabham BT42s entered by Scuderia Finotto, and AAW Racing Team with a newly-acquired Surtees TS16 for Leo Kinnunen. That came to 32 entries, although only 30 had been intended. Token became the 26th 3-litre F1 marque. Amon stayed away to convert his car to outboard front brakes after two breakages, but Ensign were reborn with new driver Schuppan and financial support from Teddy Yip in Hong Kong, and the Australian qualified impressively in 14th spot. There should have been 30 starters but the organisers took pity on Brambilla, whose practice had been ruined by engine problems, and let him start.
The eight spare cars were Peterson's Lotus 72, Tyrrell 006/2 under a tarpaulin behind the pits, a McLaren M23, a Brabham BT44, a Ferrari 312B3, a Surtees TS16, the second Hesketh 308 and the second Finotto Brabham BT42. That set another new record of 40 cars at a F1 race, although Pete Lyons in his Autosport report counted 41. It seems likely that the spare Yardley McLaren M23 was also there.
Jenks noted that Brambilla's car had been rebuilt, and called it "741/2-2" but was too busy being snippy about Nivelles-Bauler to explain the suffix. Pete Lyons in Autosport explained that "a new March 741 had been created, although for reasons of crossing borders it was labelled with the same chassis number as his old one, destroyed in Jarama". This was the first appearance in the historical record of what ORC calls "Jenks notation", the use of a hyphenated suffix to denote the second and subsequent iteration of an entity. Ray Hutton in Autocar also used this notation, suggesting some collusion in the press tent, while Jabby Crombac simply called it "741/3". Alan Henry noted that the spare Surtees TS16 was "TS16/03-2", so numbered to indicate that it had been rebuilt after Mass collided with the pit wall while practicing for the Race of Champions", but called the other two "TS16/02" and "TS16/04", which confused the new 'Jenks notation' introduced by his Standard House colleague with Surtees' desire to indicate Mk 2 TS16. To avoid confusion, ORC will ignore what the chassis plate said and refer to the Mk 2 TS16 chassis number 03 as "TS16-2 [03]", to show that the specification had changed from TS16 to TS16-2 but the underlying car was still the first iteration of chassis 03.
