3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Autocourse 1974/75 (edited by Mike Kettlewell) reproduced Pete Lyons' reports from Autosport, so included very little information that had not already been published. As Lyons was also writing for Sport Auto, we are heavily reliant on Lyons and Henry for the North American GPs.

The entry list started as usual with 21 F1 Association entries, first the two-car teams from Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren, Brabham, March, Ferrari, BRM, Shadow, Surtees and Williams, plus the extra Yardley-McLaren. BRM had dropped Pescarolo and Migault, and were running a two-car team for Beltoise and Chris Amon. Mass had joined Yardley-McLaren, but had been forced to make a statement apologising to John Surtees so that he could be released from his Surtees contract. The non-member teams comprised single-car constructor teams Ensign and Hesketh, the two Embassy-Hill Lolas, the Hexagon Brabham BT44, the ex-Hexagon BT42 for Ashley, and the works hire car for Wietzes, and two newcomers, the Parnelli VPJ4 and the Penske PC1. That brought the total to 30 entries, of which 26 would start after the organisers allowed 26th-place Wietzes a place on the grid. The unlucky four were Bell, whose Surtees had given trouble all weekend, Wilds in the Ensign which simply wasn't quick enough, and Brambilla and Ashley who both crashed. Before Wietzes' promotion Amon had been slowest qualifier and reported that the BRM was "absolutely impossible". He finished the race but nine laps behind. The five spare cars were a Lotus 76,a Tyrrell 007, a Marlboro McLaren M23, a Ferrari 312B3 and a Hesketh 308, so 35 cars were present. After the race, BRM announced between 20 and 25 redundancies at Bourne, and "sources" reported that the latest attempts at engine development had actually reduced the engine's power.
