Paolo is vice chairman of the family pasta firm. He has not totally retired from racing, as he is still driving in historic racing but competitive driving appearances are very rare nowadays. As well as historic racing, he also owns a number of racing cars, some of which he has restored, including a Ferrari 312B. In more recent years, he appeared in endurance events, either sportscars or rallying, including the Dakar rally. Barilla, who won Le Mans in 1985, continued in the sport long after his F1 driving spell as a sponsor, particularly with his friend Alessandro Zanardi.
