Worked in the car industry with Mick Ralph, before the pair progressed with RAM. Spent a while in F3000, before running the Superpower fabrication and engineering company, selling that in 1999, to retire. He also formerly ran a British F2 team and ran the whole series in the early 90's, and also worked as a scrutineer. Now lives in Hertfordshire. MacDonald was a racer in saloon cars and Formula 3, before retiring to concentrate on both his team efforts in Formula 5000 and the car dealership he and Ralph shared in Willesden, North London. Between 2007 and 2011, John was the Stadium Director at Loftus Road, home of Queen's Park Rangers Football Club.
