Highly regarded designer who joined Red Bull in 2006. Awarded an OBE in the 2012 New Years Honours. Newey has enjoyed almost continual success since becoming a designer after a short period of working as a race engineer for Johnny Cecotto in Formula 2. This included championship winning cars in IMSA, IndyCar, CART and Formula 1 (10 in total in the latter) as well as two Indianapolis 500 race-winning cars. Newey is now taking a wider role in Red Bull's technical department as a whole rather than designing, allowing him time to increase his historic racing involvement - as a driver - which he has been doing for some time now. From 2016 onwards, this also involves working with Aston Martin as they evaluate a full-time return to Formula 1. In 2020, he is also involved with preparing to run a team in the Extreme E environmentally-friendly SUV series for 2021.
