Attended many drivers reunions and historic festivals until his death, after a short battle against leukaemia at his home in Devon. Also raced yachts, and ran a hotel for a number of years. Halford didn't have much experience before his Grand Prix debut, but proved adept and didn't disgrace himself at all - qualifying 9th in only his 2nd Grand Prix. He was extremely lucky to survive a crash at Oulton Park in 1959 - not only did he have an accident and land in the lake, but the car ended up landing on an unexploded bomb! Retired initially from the sport in 1963, before returning in 1974 in historic racing, which he continued in 1985, signing off his competitive career driving a Maserati 250F, the same car he made his Grand Prix debut in 29 years earlier.
