Raced in touring cars, then became head of Peugeot's motor sport division, which included a spell with McLaren F1. In 1997 he formed his own sportscar team which was very successful. In 2002, he joined Phillipe Alliot's GT team as a technical director. Formed his own FIA GT series team and drove for them for a while. The onset of illness meant retirement from driving and managing, but Jean-Pierre enjoyed visiting historics and tending to his classic car collection before he became too poorly. Jabouille ended up as a engineer-cum-driver but actually graduated from university in modern art, before discovering hillclimbing a few years later.
